Eye Makeup for Small Eyes

I've always been terrible at applying eye makeup.  It doesn't help that I have such small eyelids.  Here is a great tutorial that is full of useful information.  I don't have near the products and brushes she has, so I'm thinking that might be part of the reason I fail with my eye makeup!  My mom worked for Lancome, so I grew up using the good products.  Thanks Momma!!  Now I buy drugstore brands.  There is hope for those of us that can't afford the really good stuff, though, because I think it's mostly technique when it comes to makeup.

Plus Size Swimwear

A friend posted a link to a fantastically funny blog post about wearing flattering swimwear, and it inspired me to share some plus-size sites where you can find fashionable swimming suits.  But first, you must read the blog post!

Always For Me
They also have some "mom suits" but they have a great selection of cute, flattering suits.
I have ordered two suits from Always for Me and love them.

I own this one and love it.  It covers me in all the right places and it is
very comfortable.  It comes in some pretty colors, too.

This chick rocks this suit!  I love the high waisted style and it's
cool that they've come out with a plus size version.  This suit also comes in leopard!

Designer Curves has some interesting designs.  There is actually only one of the suits that I personally like, but they are definitely not the "mom suits" you normally see.

Ro Designs has an Etsy shop with some monokinis and two-piece designs.
If you're curvy, confident, and courageous, go for it!

I have to admit that I wasn't impressed by this site from the first glance, but once I started looking around, I found that she custom makes lots of styles.  She has some pretty colors and prints to choose from, and you order the tops and bottoms separate for a good fit.

My favorite!!  They have regular sizes and skinny sizes. ;)  Their suits are so modern and flattering.
I have not ordered from there, but I'm planning to when I need a new suit.

 Blue velvet!

They don't have many, but their selection seems to change often, so it's worth it to check back.
This one is my style; ruffles with a little bit of rock. :)

Which Pair of Shoes?

I have just discovered Polyvore!  I have been having a blast creating outfits that I will never be able to afford! :)

I would love to hear which shoes you would pair with the most recent outfit I created called "Shoosies." Just click on the picture at the top of the page (with the cobalt shirt and six pairs of shoes), then comment on the Polyvore site, or right here.

I have a pair in mind that are my favorites, but I want to know what you think!

Sally Hansen 10 Days Later

Here they are 10 days later.  I'm definitely painting my nails today!  The good thing about this pattern is that it doesn't show the chipping too badly.  I would recommend putting these on right before a special occasion, but they aren't my favorite for every day.

Salon Effects

I tried out Sally Hansen Salon Effects in "Laced Up" today.  They were fairly easy to put on as long as you're not in a hurry.  It was nice not to have any drying time.  I took off my acrylics, so don't mind my acetone soaked fingers.  This was a nice way to cover up the imperfection of my nails from the acrylics.
We'll see how well they hold up.  They're supposed to last "up to 10 days."

Nail Tips & Trends

Stiletto Nails

Not practical unless you're a rock star or possibly a cat lady.

Reverse French

This can be done with any color combo.

Lemon Yellow

Lemon yellow is a trendy color.  I added a black crackle
over the top so it wouldn't wash me out.

Crackle

Apply two base coats of color, then a crackle coat over the top.
The polish does all the work.

Striped

Lovely Nails freehanded this design for me.  It's very unique but matches everything.

Neon

Neon nails go great with the trendy splashes of 80's style we're seeing.

I'm dying to try these out!

It's just polish, so experiment with different colors.  The colors that will most likely look best are ones that compliment your skin tone.  It's a learning process, so hold colors up to your skin, or paint some on and see how you feel.  You can always take it off and start over.

A french manicure is classic and always looks nice and compliments any outfit.

When choosing dark colors, I recommend keeping your nails short
so you don't look like a witch or hooker.

Healthy, manicured nails, whether done at home or a salon, are always in style.

Hair Color

I've been thinking about getting my hair COLORED

A few months ago I got my hair cut in a high fashion style and I wasn't able to dress and style it high fashion every day, so I just wound up looking ridiculous.  The cut was similar to this, but kept going down the side, and the other side was shorter.  I love assymetrical, but the bangs and straight across look didn't work for me.

So, after getting a couple of opinions, I decided that I'm just going to get my hair colored normal this time, mostly for the same reason.  It's hard to dress to match the style of colored hair every day.  I might decide to do it later, because I think these women look awesome.  I'm just not ready for a total commitment to it right now, but I think it's cool.

Scarves

I've always wanted to like scarves, but I never know quite what to do with them, and they just seem to add bulk to me.  I've decided that small silk scarves are the way to go.  I think I can pull off a bigger scarf like the pictures below as long as I keep the bulk at the top and not let it get too long.  Adding a scarf to a simple outfit can make it look more complete.  This video shows some simple and different ways to wear a scarf.

Some pretty scarves from Revolve Clothing.  They're pricey, and I don't think a scarf is something you need to splurge on.  It's easy to find cute ones at a discount store or thrift shop, and it's easy to keep them nice whether you hang them up or wad them in a ball at the bottom of a drawer.

Leggings

I finally bought a pair of leggings.  I wasn't sure if it was going to be the right move, but it was!  I've gotten a couple of compliments and they're super comfy.  Leggings are everywhere right now and I usually see that as a sign that they're going to be out of style soon; either that, or everyone will be wearing them, and I'll look like everyone else (not my style).  According to In Style, they're definitely "in."  They'll be great for fall and winter.  I've been pairing them with big shirts and cute sandals.  Mine are black, so they're more slimming than a colorful pattern would be, but I like my legs, so if I find an inexpensive pair, I might give it a shot.

Find these awesome leggings HERE.

I WANT!!

The current In Style Magazine "Makeover Issue" has been my favorite so far.  It's loaded with fashion tips and they keep the ads to a minimum.
